le starts testing FLEDGE API in AdSense //
FLEDGE is a Privacy sandbox proposal for remarketing. It is designed to prevent third parties from tracking user browsing habits across different websites. Google will start testing the API for AsSense accounts starting August 28.
What is FLEDGE? FLEDGE is an API that allows sites to display ads that they feel are relevant to users. Google states that when a user visits a site to advertise its products, an owner of interest groups (such as a DSP) can ask the browser to add the user to the group. The group owner (in this example, the DSP) does this by calling the JavaScript function navigator.joinAdInterestGroup(). If successful, the browser records the event:
- The name of the interest group, for example “custom-bikes”.
- The owner of the interest group: for example, ‘https://dsp.example’.
- Configuration information for interest groups to allow the browser to access bidding codes, ad codes, and real-time data if the owner of the group is invited to bid on an online ad auction. The owner of the interest group can update this information at any time.
A website that sells advertising space can host an auction using FLEGDE. This will allow the seller to choose the best ads to display. Bidding is restricted to the members of the specified interest groups and their owners who have been invited.

AdSense testing. FLEDGE testing will start on August 28th in AdSense. Google doesn’t predict any revenue changes or performance impact “for now.” Follow the instructions to disable FLEDGE access on Chrome browsers.
Why we care. Google last week announced that cookies would remain in Chrome through at least the middle to late 2024. If the FLEDGE API testing is successful, however, audiences and remarketing ads could become less specific, and advertisers may have a harder time converting. However, users could be served additional ads when they are added to interest groups such as “running shoes”, for example. Advertisers can learn more about how FLEDGE API categorizes your product or service, and how it may affect your remarketing ads.
